Acid Glasses – Jpeg Hoarder
When I met mild-mannered Memphis garage rocker, Nick Burk (touring with friends in the awesome band Kruxe), he struck me as a pretty chill and lucid dude.
However, behind the glowing edges of his bedroom laboratory, from the druggy late night witching hours to the hallucinogenic comedown dawn, he unleashes crazed cascades of bent, psychotropic-mutated pop pastiche as his aptly named alter ego ACID GLASSES.

Chopping up some ghostly nostalgic samples from odd fever dreams, twisting out rhythms with his voice and guitar, and spreading the warped results across both the audio and visual planes, Acid Glasses guides the sound with a submerged but still present rock n’ roll vibe that bubbles up like a mantra through the textures. I can’t help but guess there is an echo from the city outside his window, birthplace of such legendary labels as Sun and Goner.
As far as a label for Acid Glasses? Well CHECK IT OUT: Dude was on his way to play the UK with 200 tapes in tow with some serious gigs booked, but got stopped for some paperwork bullshit and deported. Instead of letting this bummer stall the momentum, he and a friend just started up their own label and GAVE THE TAPES AWAY as the label’s first release. The name of the tape? Tape, Deported.
And this too crazy not to work venture got written up in FORBES of all places!
Now, the UK has gone on and done him right, putting out a 7 inch featuring the above song (JPEG HOARDER) and My Pale Garden (MPG, get it) on the London-based label, Stroll On Records.
He has a split coming up with BLACKBIRD BLACKBIRD, and last we spoke, he let me in on this: a ~*brand new label*~ (still under wraps), started up by folks from DFA and ROUGH TRADE (right?!) will be releasing a brand new Acid Glasses 7-inch of some apocalyptic jams come early 2012.
Keep them dilated eyes peeled; Acid Glasses is going to be setting off some technicolor fireworks.
